Vik Sahay, known for his role as Lester Patel on NBC’s series “Chuck”, is a colossal mixed martial arts fan. He’s loves reading, watching, talking and analyzing everything about the MMA game. Sahay was gracious enough to take some time away from his schedule to chat some mixed martial arts.
How’d you get into MMA?
I’ve always been into boxing and competition, and have even trained a little as a boxer. I think MMA is simply the extension of that. I think the first Ultimate Fighter put me over the edge. I wish I could say I was into it before that, so I can be considered a true purist, but I certainly am deep into it now.
What do you like most about the sport?
The sacrifice of the athletes; the commitment; the digging deep; the mental aspect; the heart; he technical detail; and the drama.
Pound for pound the best fighter and why?
Well, I do think the pound-for-pound best fighter has to be either Anderson Silva or Georges St. Pierre. And why? Because they simply are. Anderson Silva’s graceful destruction, incredibly precise striking, and beyond high-end ground skills are gifts. And St. Pierre ’s evolution and constant development of his already-devastating game is the truest, deepest form of commitment. His god-given athleticism, plus his new-found mental game give him an edge in every match.
Which team impresses you the most?
I think the team that impresses me the most is the Greg Jackson-Phil Nurse team. The manner in which Greg Jackson creates strategy for his fighters is beautiful. Sometimes he seems to tell his fighters to go after the other fighter’s strengths rather than their weaknesses. Like when Georges St. Pierre fought Josh Koscheck, he chose to wrestle with him. Or when Rashad Evans fought Chuck Liddell, he chose to strike with him–incredible choice.
Where do you see the sport in 5 years?
I hope it continues to become more and more mainstream. I’m from Toronto and still spend a lot of time there, so I’d love to see the UFC descend on that city!
Which celebs are really into MMA from what you’ve seen?
I’m not sure…I think I’ve seen Wilmer Valderrama at some of the fights, Laura Prepon. and Kevin James.
Chuck vs Shogun, who takes it?
No question. Chuck.
Greatest fight of all time?
Tough call. For sheer personal thrill, the 2nd GSP fight with Serra in Montreal. The new GSP emerges, and in Canada to boot. That being said, there have been some incredible technical fights that I feel aren’t always appreciated. Most recently the Kampmann/Condit fight was a real beautiful one.
Dream match you’d love to see?
I think the fight that’ll have to happen eventually is Anderson Silva vs. Georges St. Pierre. In the meantime, watching these fights is all pretty wild for me.

Je m'étonnais qu'un être à la sensibilité raffinée comme Vik puisse s'intéresser à ce sport brutal que d'aucuns nomment improprement le "noble art".

Hey there, fellow Chuck fans! I know you see the photo, which means I know you're just as excited for today's Follow Friday as I am! That's right, folks, Vik Sahay is in the We ♡ house today!
For those of you less familiar with the Chuck universe, Vik plays the self-important, wannabe-rock star, currently-on-the-run-from-the-law, ex-Buy More computer techy Lester Patel. You very rarely see Lester without Jeff, his partner-in....general mischief, in which case Lester makes up the "brains" half of the comedic duo. Needless to say, their shenanigans rarely go the way they expected them to, often causing trouble for the Buy More, Chuck's spy operations, and themselves.
Now, Lester was written to have certain...unique...qualities, but Vik is responsible for really bringing him to life. He is able to portray the character in such a way that, even though you know Lester is the type of person you really wouldn't care for in real life, you somehow find yourself falling in love with on screen. Vik's just naturally good at subtly bringing out the lost, misunderstood puppy side of an otherwise obnoxious, yappy little terrier. It's a fine balancing act - one foot off the line either way and you either get a character you hate, or one that just doesn't quite bring the same comedic value - and Vik walks that line like a pro.
Of course, it's not like he hasn't had practice in the acting field to help pull off this Lester perfection. He started young, appearing on a few episodes of You Can't Do That On Television (which I watched religiously as a kid, I might add!); working up to star in various TV productions such as Radio Active, Our Hero, and This is Wonderland; and can be seen in movies like Fast Food High, The Rocker, and the upcoming movie Afghan Luke opposite Nick Stahl.

Afghan Luke and The Burgundy of Hash where, as I mentioned, I play a hungry journalist opposite Nick Stahl. A remote location, a pack of edgy male co-stars, and the outlaw direction of Mike Clattenburg made this a very down and dirty shoot.
The other two are taken at that studio shindig in Lala, where I'm reunited with my mad, wacky castmates from Chuck; with whom I'm now deep into the 4th season.
Looking at the pic from 'Afghan Luke' from here, it feels like the other side of the moon from the work I'm currently immersed in on the Burbank lot of Warner Brothers.
Glad to have you all back soon. Chuck Season premiere September 20th. And don't forget the Season 3 Full set DVD is out, with a lil' something extra from me and Scott.
Bon, c'est surement pas ça hein, mais la semaine dernière, j'ai écris un message sur le profil en demandant si un "article" de Vik était prévu pour bientôt, car ça faisait un petit moment qu'on avait pas eu de news (dernier message le 7 Juin)... et voici que quelques jours après, un article apparait...

En tout cas, c'est fou, en regardant ces photos, on a vraiment l'impression que ces 3 là deviennent inséparables ! Par contre, pour la photo d'Afghan Luke, pas trop de nouveauté, on se tape tjs la même depuis le début...

Pour le concours, il ne faut pas se démoraliser, la communauté a déjà fait des miracles !!! Allez-y, votez !!! Et Spy', n'hésite pas à poster sur le Blabla et les Humeurs par exemple pour toucher un maximum de Chuckiens !

Ah bah je me demandais pourquoi certains de mes amis Facebook étaient étrangement devenus fan de la page Texas Instrument ce matin. Je ne cherche plus.
En même temps, j'aurais du m'en douter, c'était tellement évident !
D'ailleurs j'en profite pour faire ma pub : personne n'a besoin d'une TI 89, quasi-neuve ? Doit encore y avoir dessus "Super Mario" (très utile pour les cours de philo entre autre )
